Ramada Bayview Information
The Foo Dog Reunion 2000 will begin on Friday, the 8th of June, at 1800. Former members of VR-21/VRC-50, civilian personnel, and their spouses are cordially invited to Pensacola, FL, to relive some of their past with old friends. Call your former squadron mates and encourage them to join us for what will most likely be our largest reunion ever!
To assist with early arrivals, someone will be in Pensacola to receive guests starting on Thursday evening. Upon arrival, please check in at the hospitality area and receive a welcome packet, timetable of events and your meal tickets. The hospitality area should remain open for most of the weekend. Friday evening will be for getting reacquainted and telling sea stories while enjoying a delicious buffet (including lumpia). We will have a slide projector, video projector, and possibly a super-8 movie projector if I can get it working. On Saturday, we will have several activities to choose from during the day, but the big event is at night. After a group picture and a short business meeting, we will have a sit-down banquet . As of now, nothing is planned for Sunday except for additional sea stories in the hospitality area.
This reunion will have a few changes over past reunions. First, the reunion's main events, the Friday evening social/buffet and Saturday night banquet will not occur at our hotel as they have in the past. Instead, we will have our Friday evening get together at the Mustin Beach Officer's Club and the Saturday night meeting and banquet in the Blue Angels Atrium of the Naval Aviation Museum, both on NAS Pensacola. If you have never been in the atrium, you will be impressed! It is a glass enclosure with the Blue Angels aircraft in diamond formation directly above your heads. (I know some of you are thinking why couldn't we get a US -3, C-2, C-130 and a T-39 up there, but we did the best we could under the circumstances.) Having the main events on base and catered by the Officer's club was also a cost-saving measure to ensure the lowest prices possible and make it affordable for all.
Our hotel is the Bayview Ramada off of Scenic highway. Please see the next page for some highlights. It is a great hotel, with an excellent view of Pensacola bay. We have 100 rooms reserved for our group and they have an additional 40 rooms available on a first-come, first-served basis. They have reserved a large meeting room for our hospitality area so Friday's and Saturday's events can continue into the wee-hours of the morning without having to worry about driving back to the hotel after a few drinks.
Several events have been planned for Saturday which will be pay as you go, including a private showing at the Aviation Museum's IMAX theater, private tours of the museum, and golf at the championship golf courses on base. Pensacola's pure white beaches are another attraction in which you may wish to partake. Located about an hour away in Mobile, Alabama, is an excellent historic attraction centered around the Battleship Alabama.
The cost of the reunion will be dependent on the type of dinner you would like. There will also be an early-bird special of $5 rebate per person if your registration form is received by the 31st of July. The cost before any rebate, will be $55 per person for the Prime Rib Dinner and $52 for the Chicken Cordon Bleu. The cost of your registration covers the two main meals, picture sitting fee (pictures must be paid for individually), setups, fees, gratuities, taxes, and some souvenirs.
All events will be cash-bar only including the hospitality suite with the exception of wine for toasting at the banquet.
